NARAKAKKANAM DAM

  Narakakkanam dam is a part of Idukki diversion project.This dam is built for diverting the water flow of narakakkanam river into Idukki reservoir and make electricity using it water is flowing through a one kilometre tunnel.The dam is not fully constructed, due to some disputes after finishing half of the work the project has been discontinued. There is a gaint valve left bottom of the dam to reduce water level incase emergency but it isn't used after the installation, and now it is full of rust and useless. As a result of incompleting the dam construction when heavy water flow arrives the dam will overflows
       The Kerala flood 2018 and 2020 made some damage to it. Floods invested around two feet of mud in dam and it reduced the water carrying capacity of the dam.
       The dam and tunnel makes unique tourist attraction here. This place is near Idukki dam and many  tourists who wisits Idukki dam trying to visit this place also. It is a remote area with calm and quiet ambiance.On the way to dam we can find some flat rock and we can rest there
