ANCHRULI TUNNEL

Anchruli is a growing tourist spot in IDUKKI district.There are hundreds of tourists visits here every day.The reason behind the popularity of this place is a tunnel called Anchruli Tunnel.The tunnel was built by KSEB in 1980s.There are many tunnels have been built for bringing water into Idukki reservoir like Narakakkanam, Kallar etc.. Erattayar is the biggest among them.Anchruli is the end point of Erattayar tunnel.it has 5.5km length and 25feet height. We can travel through the tunnel.This place is rich with outstanding beauty of nature. It is a best place for photo shoot too. While we go through the tunnel mus be vigilant venemous snakes 🐍 may there and it is camp of bats we can find thousands of bat🦇 here. 

       Anchruli is situated at Kanchiyar Grama Panchayat and it is around 10 Km from Kattappana.we can find it by travelling through Kattappana-Kottayam route.It is always open for tourists. You must visit this place.

NARAKAKKANAM TUNNEL

 

Narakakkanam is a beautiful tourist destination at Idukki district in Kerala. This place is between cheruthoni and Kattappana.You can reach this place by travelling through NH185, It is 7km from cheruthoni and 21km from Kattappana.  the major speciality of this place is a 1Km long tunnel built by Kerala State Electricity Board(KSEB). The prime use of this tunnel is divert the flow of Narakakkanam river into the great Idukki reservoir.This tunnel is helpful for bringing water from near villages to Idukki Reservoir.Length of tunnel is 800meter and height is around 10 feet. 

        When summer comes water flow will stop, it is the right time to visit tunnel. Inside of tnnel is very dark and don't forgot carrying a Toarch light if you wish to travel through tunnel. The base of tunnel is a little rough and tough.If you look into the darkness of tunnel you can find a small white spot, yes that is the end place of it

      When the floods happened in the year 2018 and 2020 water exceeded it's capacity and it overflowed, it was a strange experience.

   Important 

  There was some horrible insident happened, more than three tourists died here. To prevent accidents KSEB closed the tunnel. Now tourists are not allowed here.

  Narakakkanam dam is a part of Idukki diversion project.This dam is built for diverting the water flow of narakakkanam river into Idukki reservoir and make electricity using it water is flowing through a one kilometre tunnel.The dam is not fully constructed, due to some disputes after finishing half of the work the project has been discontinued. There is a gaint valve left bottom of the dam to reduce water level incase emergency but it isn't used after the installation, and now it is full of rust and useless. As a result of incompleting the dam construction when heavy water flow arrives the dam will overflows

       The Kerala flood 2018 and 2020 made some damage to it. Floods invested around two feet of mud in dam and it reduced the water carrying capacity of the dam.

       The dam and tunnel makes unique tourist attraction here. This place is near Idukki dam and many  tourists who wisits Idukki dam trying to visit this place also. It is a remote area with calm and quiet ambiance.On the way to dam we can find some flat rock and we can rest there
